Place de la Bastille
75004 Paris

The Outline of History: I highly recommend looking at the pavement as you walk between the Rue Saint-Antoine and the square; you will find a distinct line of special paving stones that trace exactly where the massive walls of the original Bastille prison once stood before it was stormed in 1789.
Place de la Bastille is a powerful symbol of Parisian history and the French Revolution.
It was the site of the famous Bastille prison, stormed in 1789, marking the fight for freedom and the end of absolutism.
Today, the square is a lively crossroads featuring the July Column, commemorating the 1830 Revolution, and the modern Opéra Bastille, dedicated to opera and dance performances.
Bastille is also a popular gathering place for demonstrations, celebrations, and events. With its cafés, markets, and vibrant nightlife, it captures the living and engaged spirit of Paris.
My Tip: To relive Paris’s history, this is the experience I suggest.
