The apartment where Victor Hugo lived from 1832 to 1848 traces the writer’s life through his furniture, personal objects, and artworks.

The visit unfolds chronologically:

Before Exile : The first rooms evoke Hugo’s childhood, his early literary successes, and the lively atmosphere of the “Red Drawing Room,” once a meeting place for Romantic artists and writers.

During Exile : The Gothic – and Oriental – inspired rooms reveal Hugo’s lesser-known talent as a decorator, shaped by his years in Guernsey and his love for Juliette Drouet.

After Exile : The study and bedroom reflect the writer’s late glory after 1870, his deep affection for his grandchildren, and the final chapter of his life.
